Who are The Yancys?

Good question.  We are still trying to find out.  Some say The Yancys started in Austin, Texas, where John Hawkins lived from 1998-2003.  John had a band there, Polyboy, but he also had some solo stuff that he put out under The Yancys moniker.  As The Yancys, John self-released Independence Day in 2001 to little, if any fanfare.  Recorded in his home studio, John played all the instruments and sang all the songs.  "MJ, Your'e so Pretty" (see Media page) came from this project. In 2003, John moved back to Western NC.  Asheville, to be exact.  He began working on the songs that would become Don't Tell Anybody and soon enlisted the help of some talented friends to help him record it.  By 2005, Dan Howell, Chris Church, Chad Nance, and Jon Leeds all joined the family and hit the studio with John.  All were part of the 1990's Boone, NC music scene that included Sticky, Junkflower, Marblehead, Ellery Jett, Adam's House Cat, and The Pygmies.

If any of the above is true, so be it, just don't tell anybody.  We might take a magician to the beach.
